뮤지컬 영화에 있어 그 부분의 전설과도 같은 존재였던 진 켈리(Eugene Curran Kelly)는
아이스 하키선수가 꿈이었으나 진은 댄스,특히 발레에 소질을 보였고 브로드웨이
프로덕션에서 새로운 인생의 전환점을 맞기 전까지 무용교사로 재직했으며,
1938년 브로드웨이 쇼 "Cole Porter's Leave it to Me"의 코러스에 캐스팅 된것을 계기로
1942년 로저스(Rodgers)와 하트(Hart)의 작품인 "Pal Joey"로 브로드웨이에 센세이션을 일으키자
MGM 과 계약을 맺고 약 15년간 회사의 뮤지컬 영화에 출연한 그는 댄서,배우,가수,안무가,
감독의 1인 5역을 무리 없이 소화하며 재능을 마음껏 펼쳤습니다
1942년 영화 데뷔작 [For Me and My Gal]로 새로운 뮤지컬 스타 탄생을 예고하며
비록 가수로서는 동시대의 프랭크 시나트라 만큼 인기를 얻지는 못했지만,
조지 거쉬인(George Gershwin)의 아름다운 선율을 완벽하게 소화해 낸
[An American in Paris](1951),헐리우드 최고의 뮤지컬로 춤과 화려한 댄스가 선보여진
[Singin' in the Rain](1951) 외에도 [Brigadoon](1954), [It's Always Fair weather](1955),
뮤지컬 코미디 [Les Girls](1957) 등으로 최고의 주가를 올렸습니다.
